Tailored Learning Resources
Many children from low-income families do not have the resources needed to excel in Hong Kong's public school system. As a result, they often fall behind their peers. Hope of the City provides after-school support to children in Sham Shui Po in the following ways:
English Tuition Courses
Hope of the City hires professional English teachers to travel to local community centres and churches to lead English lessons for students. Students participating in the courses are screened and referred to Hope of the City by social workers. Each class meets for one hour per week over a period of 12 weeks. In order to provide top quality teaching, there are no more than 10 students per class.
Hope of the City would like to thank WIMLER Foundation HK and Bank of America Merrill Lynch for sponsoring our English courses during 2014.
We also seek to mobilise volunteers who can help children with their homework and build their self-confidence. These volunteers are assigned to different community centres based upon time availability and need.
